Sarah plain spokeness is obviously reassuring to many of her supporters. When we are inundated with complex issues that so-called experts disagree about, is it any wonder that people would be attracted to a politician who says they can all be dealt with by relying on fundamental values. When easily stated principles are the basis for political opinions, it is reassuring at a certain level that we can get through anything.
Democrats often enjoy complexity and sometimes like to show off how wordy and analytical they can be. To values voters, this can appear as disengaged from reality that people see in their everyday lives. Rather than making fun of value voters, democrats should be trying to communicate and connect, not lecture and alienate.
